By adopting a rescue rabbit, you not only save the life of the bunny you adopt but you make room for another one to be taken into the shelter. Adopting means giving two bunnies a second chance at life!
Adoption is more economical.
NTRS spays and neuters all of our rabbits. Why is this procedure important? Being spayed or neutered dramatically lessens destructive and aggressive behavior, and territorial marking (such as urinating on furniture, carpet, etc.). Rabbits purchased from pet stores or breeders are not spayed or neutered. 90% of unaltered female rabbits will die from cancer by the age of five.
If one were to seek an experienced rabbit vet on their own to have this done, the cost is $200-$300 (per rabbit) in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. NTRS’s adoption fee is $125 for a single rabbit and spaying or neutering has already been done for you. The adoption fee helps cover the spay/neuter cost for the rabbits.
Our adoptable rabbits are healthy and socialized!
Unlike the treatment rabbits from pet stores or breeders receive, our rabbits get the utmost in care. Each rabbit is seen by an experienced veterinarian and all of their health issues, if any, are addressed. They receive the best diet and lots of love and attention. Our adoptable rabbits are healthy, litter trained, and socialized. The same cannot be said for the rabbits you see at a pet store or a breeder. Sadly, they are all too often stressed, unhealthy, unsocialized and subjected to a poor and a potentially dangerous diet. There is no need to encourage this irresponsible practice when there are so many wonderful rescue rabbits waiting for a home.
