Other Petco Stories

Here are a few more points to show PETCO has a history of selling sick rabbits.

April 23, 2002
Katherine Elias e-mails Janet Livingston about a rabbit purchased at PETCO. After $400 in medical bills, the rabbit died. Her e-mail was forwarded on to PETCO Corporate and Regional reps (Brian Devine,Nettie Pedro, Don Cowan, Barb Emory, Terri Gunn, Paul Jolly, Arthur Lewis)

June 9, 2001, 12:30 PM
Barbara Yule receives a call from a frantic female PETCO employee (2121 Harwood Road, Bedford, Texas),
saying a rabbit there has severe diarrhea and she doesn't know what to do. Barbara extends an offer to
take the rabbit for treatment if the manager will agree to sign a document releasing the rabbit into the
care of NTRS. The offer was declined.

June 16, 2001
Janet Livingston calls the store and spoke with Jo. Jo said the sick rabbit had been taken to Dr. Moore at the Southlake Animal Clinic and treated for parasites. Janet Livingston calls the Southlake Animal Clinic (200 W. Northwest Parkway, 817.481.2014) and speaks to
Lisa. Janet asks about a sick PETCO rabbit, and Lisa mentions a rabbit with diarrhea. Janet expresses a
concern that the rabbit may have coccidia, and the other rabbits in the store may also require treatment.
Lisa says she is not able to give out any more information without PETCO's permission.

June 20, 2001
K. O. Olds reports 5 baby rabbits at the Bedford PETCO in an aquarium with a sign marked "observation". K.
O. asks an employee what that meant, and was told the rabbits were being treated for coccidia. Janet
Livingston e-mails Brian Devine (PETCO President) and Nettie Pedro (PETCO Companion Animal Coordinator for
Region 4) and tells them their supplier is selling them sick animals. No response was received.

June 23, 2001
Janet Livingston visits the Bedford store and speaks with Tessa. She shows Janet 4 rabbits in an aquarium
under observation, as well as the one rabbit that was confirmed with coccidia in the back storage room.

December 6, 2000
Peter Wood at the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, shares with Janet Livingston a customer
complaint filed on December 4, 2000 against a PETCO at 3236 Telegraph Road in St. Louis, Missouri. The
customer reported seeing a dead rabbit in this store. Kim Sherman, PETCO Communications Analyst, responds to
Peter Wood and copies Janet Livingston on an e-mail dated December 15, 2000. Kim states the rabbit in
question was indeed dead, and the "rabbit's death appears to have been from a cold." Kim claims a
necropsy was being performed to confirm the cause of death. She also says as a precautionary measure, the
other companion animals in the store had been taken to the vet for treatment.

January 27, 2001
Janet Livingston e-mails Kim Sherman, requests results of the necropsy, and the condition of the other
animals being treated. Also copied on this e-mail were Peter Wood of PETA, and the following PETCO
officers: Brian Devine, Nettie Pedro, Terri Gunn, Arthur Lewis, Bruce Hall and James Myers. No response
received.
