Marlo

What happened to Marlo?

A white rabbit showed up at Marlowe's backyard.  The rabbit's eyes, nose and mouth were caked with blood and puss. One of the eyes was closed up. The rabbit had great difficulty in breathing through its nose.  Marlowe quickly arranged to get this poor rabbit to NTRS in Garland.

The rabbit is an adult female Himalayan, and was in bad shape.  Marilyn Riha-Kourvelas of NTRS took the rabbit to Doctor Effie Giannopoulos of CityVet (Oak Lawn) in Dallas.

The rabbit was given the name "Marlo" after Marlowe who rescued her.

Marlo was found to have fractured nose facial trauma with severe bruising, and she had lost her top and bottom front teeth.  Marlo also has an abscess in the front of her mouth and puss oozing from her eyes.

After this emergency treatment, Marlo can now see with both eyes.  She can now breath through her nose again, (though with some gurgling sounds).  She is on pain medications and is receiving "Critical Care" feeding with a syringe several times a day.

Marlo faces several more veterinary appointments related to the fractured bone that connects the nose and mouth, and also treatment for the abscess.

Marlo is recuperating at the "Haven of Hope".  Marilyn heads up the "Haven of Hope" division of NTRS which cares full time for rabbits with special needs.

Update on Marlo:

Marlo's two top front teeth will never grow back.  Her two bottom front teeth are growing again but are not growing straight.

The good news is that Marlow's fractured face bone that connects the nose and mouth, is healing nicely.  She is now able to eat on her own.  Marilyn cuts the hay and veggies into small pieces for Marlo to eat.

The abscess in the front of her mouth is now cleared up and there is no more puss oozing from her eyes.  As you can see Marlo looks and feels so much better.

Marlo is recuperating at the "Haven of Hope".  Marilyn heads up the "Haven of Hope" division of NTRS which cares full time for rabbits with special needs.
