Barb's Bunz

Here are the ones we couldn't let go

All of our bunnies are special, and we wish we could get them all a good home, but for some, due to illness or other problems, they need a little more care to give.  We gave these bunnies a special amount of love, and in return, they gave us a part of their heart.  These are the ones we can't let go and the heart of the Sanctuary.

Angel

Angel came to the sanctuary 18 months ago starved and very weak. Despite being treated so cruelly, She showed great affection from the start.  With the death of Boomer, Angel has assumed the position of the "Princess Royal"  of North Texas Rabbit Sanctuary.  Barb says "She is full of Marshmallows".  She enjoys flipping on her back and sleeping with all four feet in the air, and ears for balance.

Libby

Libby is a medical success for the sanctuary.  She was brought to us with a terrible case of ear mites and severe "Head Tilt".  She has survived many bouts of antibiotics which saved her life.  Libby lives in a playpen with her boyfriend and surprises us all when she doesn't realize she has this disability and sits up straight to wash her face and ears; and yes, the picture is a top view of her.  Despite her disability, Libby always looks up!

Samantha

Samantha is very old.  At the time of rescue, she was deaf, and is going blind.  Although most of these would be considered disabling,  she can smell food from a mile away or from the other side of the room; whichever is closer.

Samantha and Benji

Benji is a recent Widower from the passing of his partner Boomer.  He recently sniffed Sam from across the cage, and it was love at first sight.  His favorite trick is to throw his ferret ball around the cage.  Sam can't see it, but gives points for noise!

Hershey

Hershey is an old Warrior, and is the original "Biting Bunny".  He has managed to draw blood from EVERY Volunteer including the Web Master!  He had suffered through four months of daily injections and wound treatments for a neck abscess.  Since he was abused before he made it to the sanctuary, he grew to fear the hands that reach for him, so he'd attack.  Now down to just half his original weight, he continues to fight death, and cling to life with the same tenacity as he did when much younger.

Hershey and Millie

Millie is a 7 year old brown and white Dutch who has been Hershey's partner for 3 years now.  As seen here, Millie loves and still sees Hershey as her "Brave Little Warrior".

Bugsy

Bugsy is currently 6 years old.  She was taken to the vet to be euthanized  by her owner got a kitten.  The vet called the sanctuary telling us  that she didn't need to die and could we rescue her.  We have had her for 18 months now, and there are many more where those came from.  Her escapades into the bedroom result in her complete freedom for several days until Barb is able to coax her out again.

Maximus

Maximus is a "Flemish Giant" which is Swahili for "Bunny with big ears".  He was seized from a show breeder by cruelty investigators.  At the time of rescue, he weighed a mere 11 lbs which fails in comparison to his current 17 lbs.  This gentle Giant loves to binky down the hall throwing his back feet in the air, and 10 inch ears flapping in the wind like a sky bound bunny.
